Hera, the first year juvenile Bald Eagle, came to us after a boater on Bullards Bar called when she was desperately begging for food. Gemma, one of HRC's volunteers, was picked up on the dock and taken to Hera, where she was saved. Dr. Amy Maskey DVM, informed us that she had broken her wing, and only had a day or two until death from starvation. Her outlook was poor. Hera was fed fish from dozens of wonderful local fisherman and loving community members, striving to save this beautiful and special eagle. After 3 rigorous months of physical therapy, creance flight training, and plenty of TLC, Hera was released back to her earthly home on Bullards Bar Reservoir.

Yuba, the Osprey from the North Fork Yuba River, was discovered by a truck driver at the bottom of its nest. The fledgling was suffering from severe punture wounds from a local Red-Tailed Hawk, who was trying to steal a fish meal, or steal the Osprey! Yuba was an unlikely save, and returned to his home at the North Yuba River.

Rex, the Great Horned Owl was found on a highway, being run over by a semi truck at Beale AFB. An Airman found him and called for help. Kim Franza, master rehabber of 18 years, triaged an unconscious and unresponsive Rex. Within several weeks, Rex was returned home to the wild. |
What Our Community is Saying"These folks are awesome! They care for hundreds of birds each year! They have a wealth of expertise with the rehabilitation and release of raptors of all species. My experience is that all the handlers/volunteers love the birds and care for them with the utmost respect (on a beautiful ranch that has built a facility specifically for birds of prey). They are a treasure to our community! Save their number in your phone and give it to your friends so that you can help our raptor friends." |
